Calenza Font Family

From Valencia's Streets to Contemporary Type

Born from the blue ceramic street signs of Valencia’s historic center, Calenza transforms a fragment of urban heritage into a contemporary type family designed for today’s graphic design needs.

What began as a collection of photographs taken while wandering through the streets of Valencia gradually evolved into a complete typographic system. The original plaques, created following a municipal competition in 1902 to improve street-name legibility, revealed a unique balance between functionality, personality, and visual impact.

Rather than reproducing the plaques literally, Calenza reinterprets their spirit through a versatile family designed for branding, editorial design, signage, packaging, posters, and digital environments.

The Expressive style

Calenza Poster : The most expressive side of the family

Inspired by the unusual letterforms and rare variations discovered during the research process, Calenza Poster gathers the exceptions that didn’t belong in the core family but were too interesting to leave behind.

Perfect for headlines, posters, music festivals, branding, packaging, and cultural projects.
